On the advancement trail, a Cub Scout progresses from rank to rank, learning new skills as he goes. Each of the ranks and awards in Cub Scouting has its own requirements. As you advance through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging, to match the new skills and abilities you learn as you get older.

Bobcat
The Bobcat badge is earned prior to all other ranks. If a boy joins Cub Scouting as a Wolf, Bear, or Webelos, he must earn the Bobcat badge first before receiving any other award or rank.
Required for all Cub Scouts

Webelos
Webelos is for boys who are 4th graders, or 10 years old, and it is a 1.5 year program. The first year they are called Webelos, and the 2nd year they are called Arrow of Light, which is the highest and final rank in Cub Scouting. In February of their 5th grade year, they will "bridge" over into Boy Scouts in a ceremony at the Blue & Gold Banquet, and go on to join their new Boy Scout troop.
